about me
Clare Emily is a contemporary artist from London. Heavily influenced by childhood trips to Chichester Harbour, her paintings seek to embrace the essence of vast natural landscapes, exploring the sense of depth and how light interacts with the sea. This is conveyed particularly by her impasto use of acrylic paint applied with a palette knife to create layers and textural interest. The interplay of colour and the depiction of light also play a major role in her style.
Clare usually works from her imagination, only using photographs or supplementary materials for commissions, so that the work remains intuitive; an impression of the scene that it depicts. The result is visually aesthetic, crisp and contemporary, semi-abstract art.
A self-taught painter, Clare also works as a classical musician, having trained as a cellist for many years.
